Five Services for the Surfaces in Your Home

ALB Premium Painting focuses on five services. Each one addresses a specific homeowner need, from refreshing dated interior colors to refinishing a weathered deck. Below you'll find what each service involves, why you might consider it, and what to share when you call.

Every project starts with a conversation. We confirm the full scope with you before any work begins; related services are separate, and nothing is automatically included. If your project needs more than one service, we talk that through with you rather than assuming.

Interior Painting

What it involves

Interior painting applies a fresh, even finish to the walls, ceilings, trim, and doors inside your home. It's a surface-level refresh; the goal is clean, even color with crisp lines, not a structural change. The wall surface underneath sets the ceiling on how clean the result looks, so heavily textured or patched walls may need skim coating first.

Why consider it

Homeowners consider interior painting when colors look dated, walls are scuffed or marked, or a room no longer feels coordinated with the rest of the home. It's one of the simplest ways to make a space feel cared for again, and it works for a single room or a whole interior.

What to share

Share which rooms are involved, whether ceilings and trim are included, the current wall condition, your preferred colors and finish, and whether adjoining rooms need to coordinate.

Exterior Painting

What it involves

Exterior painting applies a new finish to the outside surfaces of your home, refreshing faded colors and coordinating trim and architectural details. It's a surface-level refresh, not a structural repair, and the existing surface, previous coatings, and visible condition all shape the conversation before any work begins.

Why consider it

Faded, peeling, or dated exterior paint makes a home look older and less cared for than it is. A fresh finish updates the look of the property, and loose or peeling coatings usually need assessment first so the new paint holds rather than failing.

What to share

Share which exterior areas you want painted, the current condition, the existing coating, your preferred colors, and your preferred timing and flexibility around weather.

Wallpaper Removal

What it involves

Wallpaper removal takes old wallpaper off the wall and cleans away the adhesive underneath. The goal is a clean, stable surface ready for the next finish: paint, skim coating, or both. The wallpaper type, the number of layers, and the wall condition underneath all affect how the job goes.

Why consider it

Dated or peeling wallpaper ages a room quickly, and removing it yourself often damages the wall underneath. Careful removal protects that surface and sets up a cleaner next step. The finish that follows should be discussed after considering the wall's condition.

What to share

Share how many walls or rooms have wallpaper, the wallpaper type, whether it was painted over, the wall surface underneath, and whether you'd like the walls painted after removal.

Skim Coating

What it involves

Skim coating applies a thin layer of joint compound across a wall and sands it smooth, often in several passes, to create a flat, even surface. It's a surface-finishing technique that comes before paint, and it's the standard way to smooth heavy texture, patches, or uneven drywall.

Why consider it

Heavily textured walls, patched repairs, and uneven drywall show through paint no matter how carefully it's applied. Skim coating creates the smooth surface that makes a paint finish look clean. It's surface-level, though, and doesn't resolve structural movement or moisture.

What to share

Share which walls or ceilings need smoothing, the current condition, whether the walls are drywall or plaster, whether you'd like them painted afterward, and any recurring cracks or moisture issues.

Deck Staining & Painting

What it involves

Deck staining and painting refreshes the surface of an outdoor deck with a protective finish. Stain soaks into the wood and shows the grain, from transparent to solid, while paint sits on top for a solid color. The existing coating, wood condition, and the look you want shape the plan.

Why consider it

Decks take a beating from sun, rain, and foot traffic. A fresh finish brings back color and adds a protective layer that slows moisture absorption and helps the wood last longer. It's a maintenance step, not a one-time fix, and how long it lasts depends on exposure and the wood itself.

What to share

Share the deck size, current condition, whether you want stain or paint, the wood type if you know it, and the existing coating's condition.

Choosing a Service

Which Service Fits Your Project?

These services often work together, but they solve different problems. Here's how to tell them apart before you call, and how to think about combining them.

Repainting vs. removing wallpaper

If your walls are already painted and you want a new color, interior painting is the service. If they're covered in dated wallpaper, removal comes first; painting over wallpaper rarely gives a clean, lasting result. After removal, the wall's condition decides whether paint goes on directly or skim coating comes first.

Smoothing walls vs. painting them

Skim coating smooths a textured or uneven wall; painting adds color on top. If your walls have heavy texture or patches, skim coating before paint gives a far cleaner finish than paint alone. They're separate steps that often go together.

Painting vs. smoothing walls

Interior painting adds color and a fresh finish to walls and trim. Skim coating comes first when a wall is too textured, patched, or uneven for paint to look clean on its own. They're separate steps that often go together on the same wall.

Updating a deck vs. painting inside

Deck staining and painting is a separate outdoor service focused on wood decks; it's distinct from interior painting, which covers walls, ceilings, and trim inside the home. On a deck, the existing coating and wood condition shape the plan, and stain and paint create different looks.

Exterior painting vs. deck finishing

Exterior painting refreshes the outside of your home, like siding and trim, while deck staining and painting is a separate service focused on wood decks. The two involve different surfaces and project considerations, so we confirm the scope of each one with you rather than treating them as the same job.

Not sure which combination you need? Call and we'll talk it through. We confirm the full scope with you before any work starts, and related services stay separate unless you decide to include them.
